A man drowned Saturday while picking opihi.

The Hawaii County Fire Department said the man, between 40 and 45 years old, was spotted at 3:24 p.m. floating facedown offshore near OTEC Road. The road is located south of Kona International Airport.

The Fire Department said the unidentified man went opihi picking at about 9 a.m.
